Job Duties
Check formwork, granular base and steel reinforcement materials before concrete placement
Direct placement of concrete into forms and onto surfaces according to grade specifications
Fill hollows and remove high spots to smooth freshly poured concrete
Operate power vibrators to compact concrete
Level top surfaces of concrete according to grade and depth specifications using straightedges, screeds and floats
Finish concrete surfaces using hand and power tools, including power trowels
Operate construction equipment including jackhammers, concrete saws and other power tools as required
Install anchor bolts, steel plates, door sills and other fixtures in freshly poured concrete
Apply hardening and sealing compounds to cure concrete surfaces
Waterproof, damp-proof and restore concrete surfaces
Repair, resurface and replace worn or damaged sections of concrete floors, walls, roads, sidewalks and other concrete structures
Perform concrete forming and preparation work
Read and follow construction drawings, specifications and site instructions
Maintain a safe and clean work environment
Perform all duties related to concrete finishing and cement masonry
Requirements
Completion of secondary school is usually required
Completion of a two- to four-year apprenticeship program in concrete finishing or
More than three years of work experience in the trade and some high school, college or industry courses in cement finishing
Ability to operate power tools and construction equipment safely
Ability to perform physically demanding work in various weather conditions
Trade certification for Concrete Finishers is considered an asset
